May be redundant but one thing that I do is set up my mirrors so that there is no blind spot. The rear view is obviously straight back then while stationary I focus on something just inside the rear view and put the inside of my two outside mirrors to that same point. When a car leaves one mirror it appears in another. Then I also judge the fact that if I can see both sets of headlights in the outside mirrors I have enough room to move over when necessary. Keep in mind you need to use your peripheral vision for cars right next to you. I rarely take my eyes off of the road in front of me.
Hah! I could never drive barefoot. But yeah, thinner shoes = better feel. You can purchase "driving shoes" or "driving loafers"...they are big in Europe, but they are becoming more common here in the US. Banana Republic sells a few "driving shoes".
Excellent articles. I especially liked the explanation of the heel/toe downshift. I never did really understand that move. The article explained it very clearly. Thanks
