Driving German is the ticket to a fine (Click for full article)

MURDO MACLEOD

LUXURY German cars are twice as likely to end up with a parking ticket on the windscreen as cheaper vehicles, according to figures from Scotland’s biggest cities.

In Glasgow and Edinburgh, makes such as Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Volkswagen are given parking fines out of proportion to their numbers on the road.

While some will jump to the conclusion that drivers of swanky and expensive German motors are more likely to risk parking illegally, others might suggest the prestigious marques are being targeted by jealous traffic wardens.

after reading the article, duh!

nice catchy title that reveals the obvious: rich snobs think they are better than the "commoners," so they'll try to bend the rules, and get fined for it. no time to mess with quarters i suppose.

the parking maids are lightning quick w/ the tickets. the moment they approach your car, you are already done for. they may have more satisfaction in ticketing an owner of a expensive ride, but for them, its all the same. not like you get fined according to the price of your ride..

does majority of americans drive american cars?
Possibly. Best selling vehicle is the F150. American vehicle.

But I dunno why they said german luxury cars. VW isn't exactly a luxury brand (not enough Phaetons).

Technically VW is a luxury German brand in comparison to toyota, honda, hyundai, ford, gm, and nissan. The Jetta, Golf, Passat are just about a step above the regular economy cars. I'm pretty sure a Jetta has a better ride, handling, and interior materials quality than the civic, fiesta, sentra, elantra, accent, corolla, and opel.

just for the record, the TOP 10 brands in March (this is the number of cars per brand that got their plates for the first time!!!!)

1 58000 VW
2 37335 OPEL
3 31848 MERCEDES
4 31354 BMW & Mini
5 26249 FORD
6 22654 AUDI
7 16464 TOYOTA & LEXUS
8 14507 RENAULT
9 12884 PEUGEOT
10 10029 SKODA

TOTAL in March 2005: 331538 cars.
The TOP 6 make 62,5 % of the total. And that includes FORD which is not exactly of german origin.

BTW, Ferrari gained 67% compared to last year and is market leader in terms of growth. not a big problem when you sell 140 cars a month to grow that by 67% [hihi]
