Door Lock problem

1989 535i Door lock does not operate with key on drivers side except to lock the car. To open I have to go to the passenger side and unlock the car by turning the key and quickly lifting the handle prior to the car locking rapidly by itself. I can reach through to the drivers side and unlock the car by pulling the door lock stick. A new door handle and actuator has been replaced on the drivers side without correcting the problem. Any ideas?

Replacing those parts was probably unnecessary - I had the exact same problem when I was messing around with my keyless entry to do the automatic window/sunroof close thing.

Thanks- I will see what we can do with the syncronizing. After speakiing with 5 dealerships in Texas one woudl thing that they woudl have had a solution othe rthan buy parts. If anyhing I have a new door handle and key mechanism. OUCH!
