I brought my car into the US and had no problems (E46 330d) except for the diesel exhaust gases. Since I was foreign military I got a waiver (although had to sign that I would take the car back to Europe) for that but had no problems for the rest of the car or whatsoever. I think if you have a non-diesel you´ll be fine. But you could send US customs an email and ask them.

i have a 92 E36 325I. i have heard from numerous people things like, the windshield, steel bars in the door frame, the speedometer and a few others.

What year is your car? Most of the newer ones you should no problem importing them here.
