Disk Error Message in CD Changer

Hi. I'm a newbie. I have a '95 325 convertible with what appears to be an original BMW CD changer. The CD player won't work. The "disc error" indicator is on and I've tried everything that the manual suggests. Is there anything to do short of taking it to the dealer? Should I buy an aftermarket version and what would all this cost?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated?

Thanks a lot.

Try ejecting the cartridge and make sure there are no other CD's in the changer. Perhaps you can unplug it to see if that might reset any problems.

Also, are you using burnt CD's?

Thanks for the quick response. I've ejected the cartridge several times and taken out all the CDs, tried putting other CDs in, rightside up, upside down, etc. None of the CDs are burnt.

In terms of unplugging, I have dissconnected the two cables that connect at the changer and then reconnected them. Is that what you're referring to as unplugging? I can hear the changer resetting (or doing something) after I do that, but the disc error light stays on.

Thanks again.
