Hi, i have registered as i am looking for some advice, i need my front airbag disabled on my BMW 318D, as i will have a baby in the front sometimes.

I phoned BMW and the price quoted was a joke, just to see if any of you know if this can be done manually.

Thanks

[thumbd] This one question that bugs the crap out of me! My wife (medical assistant and nurse on a trauma team over the years) has come home crying because some new parent just had to have their new "pride and joy" beside them in the front seat and was involved in wreck when the front air bar went off and seriously injured the child or even worse, killed them. The worst part is the child would not have been injured if they had been in the back seat! Some of the wrecks involved cars that did not have airbags, and the child was either covered in broken glass or they were ejected because of not being properly secured.

Put the child in the backseat where he/she belongs. That is the safest place for any child under the age of 12. In the states it is the law if the child is in a car seat or booster seat, except for p/u trucks which now have a switch to disable the passenger side airbag. What could be so important that the child has to ride up front? I have a child that was born with severe disabilities and he has always been in the back seat. If there is a problem where your child starts to choke, then pull off to the side of the road, you can't take care of it while driving anyways.

If you are overly worried about the child, have someone ride in the backseat with you, or even just buy one of the "clip on" mirrors (some have suction cups to apply it to the rear window) from Baby's-R-Us or any other baby store.

Sorry for the rant, we all love our kids and try to do what is best for them, so for their safety put him/her in the backseat.........................RatPack....................

***BTW my best friend wanted to do this same thing with his Tahoe, I gave him the same speech (plus I coused him really well.) Three days later a drunk ran a stop sign from a side street and hit his wife in the passenger door completely crushing the passenger seat. If their daughter would have been with her, she would have been seriously injured, if not killed. He has never put her in the front seat since.

I couldn't have stated it any better. I agree 100% and then some with this post/statement. My children never ride in the front of my vehicles; under any circumstances. My 7 and half wants to so bad, but it is out of the question. There is no reason what-so-ever for it. The back seat is the safest place for a child under 12 of age......
