2 days ago, I finnally put in my cold air intake for the ML. Took me a bit to gather the parts. Everything in the ML is oversized, so I had to find larger piping, the largest Filter, and a special connector from 3.5'' to 3''. The end result is great. But... I need to make a heat shield, any one know what would be the best material to use? I read that making one out of a rubbermaid trash can is a good idea. The intake is positioned in such a way that its sucking air right from the wheel well duct.

HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) would be a good choice for plastic. You can buy it online many places, like USPlastic.com. It works similar to wood, so you can cut it, drill it, etc. With some basic carpentry skills and some wood shop tools you could build a box. 3/8" sheet would be just right, if you can do the fab work.

Going more hi tech, DragonPlate (www.DragonPlate.com) carbon fiber would be awesome. You could cover the HDPE box with DragonPlate laminate. Or you could send them a CAD drawing and have them precut DragonPlate panels for you to assemble.
