Dumb question.........is that damage repairable? or did ole'dude just completely screw his engine? That was nuts!!!!
Usually it's repairable when the explosion happens like it did in that vid - he'll just need to replace the intake manifold and whatever else got toasted by the blast. That was simply a nitrous backfire.
An improperly set-up or malfunctioning nitrous system can cause massive engine damage if too much nitrous is injected without enough fuel along with it - then you get nitrous pre-detonation in the cylinders - that results in massive piston/cylinder/connecting rod/cylinder head damage. Knew a guy in high school who had a new Trans-Am with the LS1 and nitrous - the fuel solenoid froze up, and failed to inject the extra fuel along with the nitrous under full throttle. He ended up breaking a rod, and the piston came out through the cylinder head and hood, landing on the road next to the car.
Nitrous is dangerous stuff, especially in the hands of your run of the mill "tuner" who doesn't reall know what he's doing. You'll never see nitrous on any of my cars EVER - it's not worth it.
