Very educational, even though we think we know all this it helps to hear is again. However beware of trusting CarFax as they can only report what is reported to them.

I looked at a low mileage 2003 A4 about a month ago. The carfax was clean. But I was able to see that there was a major right front repair to the car. The screws holding the fender on were a different color, and it was evident that the color tint of the inner and outer fenders were different.

I also had an Audi Dealer sales manager tell me that they no longer voluntarily report accident work, such as the case where someone pays directly for the repair, etc.
