Crap!

Somebody backed into my car in a parking lot last night. Insurance will cover all but $500, but the trunk lid is dented and a bit creased at the top and there are scrapes on the bumper and passenger tail light. There is a large knot in my stomach, but I am hopeful that they can bring it all the way back. The Jet Black color probably makes it a bit more difficult.

I may try to make lemonade out of lemons by having them replace the tail lenses with clears. But it still sucks big time.

My baby's been scarred!

OOOOHhhh That brings back memories of my new baby getting rear ended on the Auto bahn. Have you already had quote done? Bumpers are EXTREMELY expensive to replace. My bumper looked like it just had been scratched...on the surface. But under the skin waited almost 14k euros worth of damage. Good luck with the paint also...when I had mine repainted....it was the wrong color. It is all good now...just the months worth of headaches. Sorry about that.

My local dealer has their own body shop and they know how to do BMW paint very well. I had minor bumper damage (they did it by accident during a service visit) and they were able to match and paint my bumber PERFECTLY. Maybe yours has the same? It is obviously most important to have guys experienced in BMW repairs to do the job. Good luck and I know what that lump feels like. I am so sorry.

Thanks for the feedback. I was actually able to buff out most of the scuffs on the lens cover, since it wasn't very severe and kind of came off with a fingernail (there was no real damage to the lens). Maybe I should have left it marked and hoped for a new one, but they would probably have buffed it out themselves. The bumper has a scuff that is superficial, but I'm not sure what the diagnosis will be on that. Hoping that matching paint isn't an issue with the jet black, especially since its only 10 months since production.

The real issue is the trunk, because there is a significant crease at the top and the top of the trunk is bowed up. The paint is also cracked where the trunk is creased. I'm going to push real hard for a new trunk lid because I'm afraid the seams might never be 100% aligned again and there could be some rippling or other imperfections if they try to repair it. What do you guys think about that?

Taking the car for an estimate on Wednesday.

i feel for ya... nothing like getting your car messed up, while it was "safely" parked somewhere. i remember back in HS, someone skidded into the passenger side of my car (we had almost a freezing rain situation that day) nice of them to not even leave a note afterwards.. what a JA!!

$500 for repair tho.. that now nj insurance law works? i have what they call a broad collision and unless i'm at fault, there is no deductable, esp if my car's parked and something happens to it.. just curious.

hope she comes back the way you had her the first day

Sorry to hear about that, man that sucks.

Don't take your car to a cheap shop...you may live to regret it. My neighbor took his Porsche to Maco...i don't know what he was thinking. He just wanted his bumpers painted and another spot and they ended up spraying at least 20 body parts with yellow paint by mistake. What a botched job. He had me come over and check it out yesterday...they didn't even bother to cover the wheel wells or windshield wipers...they are all sprayed with yellow now. Yikes, did he get screwed. What is that they say about getting what you pay for?
