At a recent press event for the new supercar, GM engineers told TCC that ‘German competition is driving the higher horsepower and torque numbers for the Corvette ZR1.’ Chevrolet said that the LS9 was created to match up against the V10 engine found in the BMW M range.
Engineers said that the 6.2L V8 LS9 will produce a total of 620 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque when they are done tweaking the engine in mid-2008 in time for the ZR1’s market launch.
