4 door is good for me. It has the best rigidity so the handling is the best.

Cabrio is the heaviest of the lot - needs to be reinforced because of the loss of the roof. I hate convertibles...

Cabrio's are heavier, and lose some performance due to the reinforcement of the frame like Chesty said.

It's a personal preference - Are you going to have a lot of passengers? Is it going to be just you, and maybe a date/gf? Do you need to have the wind in your hair?

Personally, I'm over Coupes - heavy long doors that are a pain to get in/out of in tight spaces, and I have passengers and a baby, so 4 door is my obvious option.

If however I were to finally get my 'play toy' (M Coupe in 1-2 years) it will of course be a 2door +hatch, and I'll be the only person allowed in it.. [:D]

I have always thought that coupes (mainly 330/325ci) are the best looking cars on the road to date. I wanted a 330ci before I got my 330cic...but multiple dealers did not have a ci with the colours/options I wanted. The cabrios are great, yes they are heavier, but BMW builds a near perfect drop top.

The ingrees/egress of a 2 door can be difficult, but really only if you are old, fat or both [clap]

I am completely loving my 2004 Sports Wagon...it drives so amazing, has the versatility of the 4 door sedan, and tons of storage and hauling capabilities due to the wagon aspect. It seems like the perfect choice. I have the Sports Pkg, Premium, Cold Weather, Xenons.... It handles as well as the cabrio, and as a plus it is bank vault solid. Not a rattle, squeak or shimmy can be heard.

Do I still want a 330ci? Yes. When the new model comes out, will I get one? Most def. We are expecting our first child in April [:)] , and the wagon appeals to my practical side....but once behind the wheel....it feels like a sedan, or coupe. No compromises at all. LOVE THE WAGON!!!

I enoyed my 318is, but with only two doors and sitting low I sold her. I loved my 750iL, 4 BIG doors and easy in and out. Then again I still have the roadster, two doors and a soft top..hmmm, hard to say. If it was my only car, or my daily driver, I'd go with 4 doors.

i have only had 2 coupes.. and i must say that i prefer the look of the 2door.. but i think ill be getting a 4door for my next car..

and a convertable only for a weekender or away trips with the woman.. [:)]

so the length (front wheel to back wheel) is the same in coupe and sedan..?
and what about passanger room in the 4door cos there is no leg room in the e30 coupe..

I've always been a fan of BMW Sedans, if the M3 came in a sedan model I would have bought it.
I'm not sure if you're referring to the USA in isolation but the E36 M3 did. Perhaps you meant the E46; in that case youd've been right in the first place [hihi]

I think it's important to point out a few more things:

If we're talking about the 3-series, the Sedan, Coupe, and Cabriolet do share the same wheelbase and overall length.

-Cabriolets have the least amount of interior room because they have to make room for the top's motor and storage of the top when it's down.

-Cabriolets weigh the most and have more wind resistance, so they are always a little bit slower and handle just slightly worse than their Coupe versions.

-Coupes aren't meant to just be "cool and impractical". Coupes actually provide more room and comfort for the driver and front passenger compared to the Sedan version. Coupes also have a more natural feel to them as you have less behind you (as the driver) compared to a Sedan, of course this is subjective to each individual. It could also be due to the fact that I'm thinking of my car right now that uses the Front-Midship Platform (engine behind the front axle), which "pushes" the interior back a little bit.

I love my coupe. I think it looks better than the e36 four door, and I like the long heavy doors (makes me feel extra safe), it handles better than a four door (I think at least), and this will sound stupid but I think coupes are more aggressive looking, and finally I think coupes are easier to drive in the city. Also I have so much room and everything seems to be built around the driver in my coupe; four doors do not seem to share that similarity.

The only real issue I have against the two door is the guilt I feel when my tall friends sit in my back seat. I feel obligated to move my driver's seat up and it makes the drive somewhat uncomfortable. I think my next car will probably be a 4 door 5-Series, but I know when I get rid of the coupe I will miss it terribly.
