There they go again. Their Japanese bias is so unbelievable. They chose the G35 over the 3 series. Funny how Car and Driver just chose the BMW. Oh yeah, Consumer Reports - the same people that flubbed the baby seat test.

Sedan, $30,000 to $40,000
Infiniti G35
Cost: $35,000 to $39,000The G35 is available in rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive.

The G35 "really blows the BMW 3-series away at its own game," said David Champion, head of auto testing for Consumer Reports. "It's extremely fast - 306 horsepower, zero-to-60 in 5.4 seconds - really agile handling, great steering, reasonable amount of room inside and really easy to live with on a day-to-day basis."

Its reliability has also been excellent, Champion said, although the record for parent company Nissan has been spotty.

Aren't there several 'blunders' with CR? Haven't they been successfully sued for fraudulently representing products on dozens of occasions?

Does anyone really take their opinion seriously? I'm with ThatOneGuy; hec, I'll go even further; I wouldn't even look to them for washing machines. The internet baby!!!

I really stopped ready CR many years ago. It sad that a lot of new car buyers still use them as a reference.

Yeah, CR certainly are not "car guys". As Tom said, it's a shame that the other "non-car guys" (about 80% of the population?) puts so much faith in their car reviews. I just don't believe that in all those categories the Japanese cars can come out on top in a fair, objective comparision.

Their most recent screw up was the Child Car Seat 35 mph test standard that was performed under 75 mph simulated conditions!

Well, I think CR just compiles owner satisfaction surveys and publishes the results. Objectively, Japanese cars do offer a better overall, bang-for-your-buck value when you strictly look at just what you get & what you pay for and ignore specifics such as driving experience and/ or other aspects of luxury vehicles that make people like German cars etc. For example, a nicely equipped 3-series is easily pushing low $40K's, whereas a comparably equipped Acura TL or Lexus is $5K+ cheaper.

Not exactly apples to apples, but not all car buyers are car enthusiasts and picky like us. So, in the lowest common denominator of buying demographics, I think CR still serves the wider public to some degree. Just my .02 anyways...

Not defending CR, but our tax dollars goes to colleges, welfare, Am Track, Union Pacific and other railroads, National Public Radio, and many many more places...
Well 100 % of income taxes goes directly to paying the national debt.

Well said. I too, am not defending CR, nor do I subscribe to or read CR anymore. I do however agree with Detrich, that CR does do a fair job for the "majority" of car buyers. There's a reason that almost every MBZ model, or many SAABS, the 03-05 7 Series, etc... are blacklisted on CR and not recommended. They're generally bad cars. So if someone is truly looking for a basic car for transportation and reliability, then CR does it's good recommending a Camry, an Accord or almost every Lexus (if you're looking for a pure "luxury vehicle"). My 2 cents.
