Colorado Traffic Laws to be Enforced

It appears that Colorado is going to enforce a pet peeve of mine, using the left lane for other than passing. I know we have discussed this before but it really chaps my hide when some dork is doing five and even ten under the limit in the left lane. They refuse to move for anyone. I hope Washington State Patrol reads this and follows suit!

I disagree. If people would use the left lane to pass than move right traffic would flow faster and smoother, this has been demonstrated in studies. Enforcing it is the easy part.

First off I didn't say its RIGHT to stay in that lane - I'm saying the law itself is bullshit in PA. I HATE when people stay in the left lane, and I myself never do it (unless passing - and if I have to speed up a little to get around I will). Its not only going to keep traffic moving, but you wont get 20 cars all bunched up in both lanes going 70mph becuase nobody can pass.

I believe its a seconday offense in PA, but how is it enforceable? You may be in that lane for 2 miles maximum or while overtaking a car. It simply isn't enforced. THAT is why its bullshit.

Not sure what your saying. I never said you said it was "right". I dsiagree that the law is "BS" as you say. I enforced this law at times and it is a very enforceable and effective when used.

Isn't enforced does not mean it is unenforceable. Nor does not being enforced make a law BS. Studies have shown that enforcing this law will result in less road rage and fewer accidents.

This is my last night in Colorado. From all of our highway driving, I have noticed that retards in the left lane will be doing 65mph in a 75 zone. Faster left-laners tailgate for a while and then finally go into the right lane. The highway here isn't even CLOSE to busy, yet idiots are still comfortable chilling in the left lane doing 10mph under the limit, blocking the other, faster drivers.
I wish people would have a brain when driving on the highway.

Then EXPLAIN how it will be enforced. Helicopter? If someone is in that lane and see's a cop, they will obviously get over but that's different than when there are no cops and theres tons of people trying to pass BECAUSE when there is a cop around, EVERYONE gets into the right lane.

Not true. When there are "cops" around people still speed, drive reckless, run red lights, etc. Like I said I have enforced the very same law in the past. Someone is in the left lane, fails to see me behind him, two three car legenths and fails to move to the right after passing, another vehicle (faster than he) has to go right to get around him, Bam I got him. If I was operating my in car camera I have it all on tape as well. It is no different than enforcing any other law.

Here in Washington it would be really easy becasue the WSP use many different brands of unmarked cars (even BMW's) and use random paint colors with non-exempt license plates, I mean they use cars that look like everyday cars with hidden light systems.

That's true. I also think unmarked police cars are great (except the state's I might drive through [|)])

I think it's becuase of PA's law enforcement. Usually it's not nearly as tough as other states, and obviously different counties are stricter than others. It's pretty easy for someone to get off with a warning, or getting the points, fines, etc. removed or lowered. The few times I've been pulled over, it was more of a "hey buddy, just be safe" than a "i'm going to give you a huge ticket" kind of thing. I just got the points removed from my license from my little 11pm stop sign incident about 4 months ago...oops!

I've just NEVER heard of anyone getting busted for it, and in fact I've seen cops in unmarked cars not pull left lane bandits over. It's just not taken seriously [xx(]

Illinois passed the same kind of law last year and it hasn't done squat. The ISP will even switch lanes to the right to pass someone driving in the left lane.

I've followed cops that use the left lane for miles and miles and miles (many times). i'm not sure they are aware of the law here..... (obviously they are but don't care about it or busting anyone that does it.)
