I had the chance to get a Chevy SSR for an overnight evaluation and want to share with you guys. I must say it a head turner. With the top up, it looks like a pickup. With the hard top down it looks like a roadster. Everyone in NYC were turning there heads
and complimenting.

Acceleration - 6/10
-------------------

Vortec 5300 V8 SFI engine
285 horsepower @ 5200 rpm
325 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4000 rpm

You would think you would be smoking the tires will this thing, yes that was true. The low end torque allowed me to squeak the tires. The acceleration was not particularly good. Perhaps it was the automatictransmission. My ZHP would have smoke this car

Fit and Finish 4/10
--------------

The interior was kind of cheap : plastic everywhere. The shift knob had a button on the top. When I ran my finger around it, it felt loose and about to come loose. Reach under the seat to look for seat adjustment but beware you may get cut from the sharp plastic edges. Try to adjust the seats, I could not even get to the controls on the side without opening the door. But, i did like the brushed aluminum trim. The Wheel were nice too, 20inchers.

Style - 10/10
-------------

Compliments were abundant, ah mostly from guys though.

I think they're just oddball cars....they seem to have no direct purpose. Most of the people who will complement you on a car are gonna be guys....girls usually just look.

The thing that surprised me the most about the SSR is its lack of room inside. I just felt so cramped inside the truck, and I had the seat all of the way back. The interior is really disappointing, too - it's a far cry from the really cool interior that they had in the concept truck. The gauges are especially disappointing - the gauges in the concept truck were awesome - the ones in the production truck just look cheap.

Here was one of the versions of the preproduction interior with the cooler gauges. The neat thing about these gauges was that they used the exact same lettering/font as my '67 Camaro has on its gauges - it was a really cool, tasteful retro throw-back that shouldn't have cost them hardly any more to produce.

There were apparently others interiors as well because this isn't the one I remember - the interior I remember had a console and the dash was a little more sculpted.

I read a few reviews and they all said that the looks and concept are great (of course that assumes you like this type of vehicle.) But they all said that GM rushed it to production and compromised too many things. For example, they all complained about the lack of performance. GM is supposed to release a higher powered version, but it will probably be too little too late.

I've had 3 college chicks compliment my car in the past week!!! It's cool. I play it real low too, I never tell anyone I own a bmw. I let them find out. I just like their inital reaction (becuase to me it's just a fun car)

Yeah, but I mean girls look at a car they like and they think, "ooh nice car lemme check out the driver" and that's all there is to it. But when a guy sees a nice car he'll let the driver know and he'll mean it. Speaking of this, I think girls are afraid of my car.

And yeah, the final version of the SSR just sucks sooo much. It could have been much hotter but as usual, GM just GM-ified it when it came time for productionl.

I could not agree more with both you and Kirby. GM sucked it up on this one, as usual. They create cool concept vehicles but then tone down all of the things that made them cool as concept vehicles before putting them into production.

That's one good thing about Chrysler/Dodge - when they create a concept car and then decide to build it, they seem to do a pretty good job of retaining the things that made the concept car cool in the production car.
