I don't know if any one can help me, but I have a quick question. I am looking to hook up an amp (to run a sub) to the stock radio assembly in my '99 Chevy Silverado. I'm not sure if the heavier gauge wire would fit, if there is a place to plug directly in, or if there is something else I could use. Also, some kind of diagnostics might be helpful. Kinda a random question, but anything will be helpful... I want to try and avoid paying $60+ to have someone else install it. Thanks.

I used to own a Chevy S10 with an aftermarket system. What I did was attached a heavier gauge wire(with fuse) directly from the battery through the firewall to the amp. The only difference was that I also went with an aftermarket headunit that required a wire harness. The harness plugs directly into the OEM setup so it required no cutting. The great part about this is that you can tap into the remote wire for the radio and turn off your amp when the ignition is off to prevent drainage.

Hope that makes any sense, I can draw out the schematics if you have more questions.

Ya, i might do something like that. It's looking like it will be a lot easier to just go ahead and get an aftermarket head unit. It will save a lot of time and trouble, and even some money if i had an audio place hook up to the old radio for me.
