California title question

I'm trying to buy myself a 1994 325i. To make a long story short:

Parents Divorced
My age/occupation: 18, college student with stable job
Would need to co-sign loan with my mom to get any sort of financing on the car
My dad handles my insurance, and AAA says that he needs to be on the title in order to be able to insure me.

So, if I am on the title/loan with my mom, can I get my dad added to the title so that he can insure the car?

Otherwise, back to the BMW part:

It's a 1994 BMW 325i 4dr, with 78k miles. Excellent condition, dark red/maroon color, drives like a dream and is in perfect cosmetic condition, inside and out. I'd be buying it from a German auto repair shop that happens to have 3 BMW's and a porche on their lot for sale.

Your help on this specific issue is appreciated!

Update: I believe that I can possibly insure myself on my own new own policy (assuming AAA would give me one) and avoid the whole title fiasco.

I can actually get a pretty good deal on the insurance, less than what my dad is paying right now, if I declare my insurance for the city I go to college in (where I spend 8-9 out of 12 months of the year). Insurance companies allow this, even if it's not my permenant address, right?

I believe you will get a better rate if you use a permenant address. Some Insurance companies are different from others, I remember from a long time ago my mom was able to insure me even though her name was not on the car's title.

For starters I am wondering why you are using AAA for insurance? They are one of the highest premiums out there. I use mercury insurance company and as a 40 yr old driver with a good driving record I have two car on the policy. I have a Mazda 626 and a BMW 740 i both full coverage and it cost me $335.00 every six months and $670.00 a year.. try to beat that.

I'm the only one on the title in my car. But, my insurance is w/ my family. I think my dad is listed as teh primary driver (cuz he's oldest so it's cheapest). We have Mercury.

I ended up getting a co-signed loan with my mom, savings secured, so I can get a great interest rate and have my name on the title. I will also be insuring myself.

I'm going to probably be purchasing the car today. I'll post pictures when I get it!

That rate sounds really low, are you sure you have "full coverage"?
