I'm considering buying a BMW that is across the Country. After agreeing to a price, what is the best way to handle the transaction? I know I would need to send a down payment, but don't know how much would be right. How should payment, transfer of the title, shipping the vehicle, etc. be done? Any suggestions or experience will be helpful.

What Source did you find this individual for the vehicle?

How Much is it?

Do you want to go get it and drive it back? (I'd suggest that)

I found the vehicle through Auto Trader / traderonline.com. The price will be around $XX,000 give or take. I't 2085 miles from my house. I would love to fly out and get it, but I would need a week off of work plus cost of airline ticket, gas, meals and lodging to drive back.

I'm looking for the safest way to transfer money and title, say through FedEx. Also how should the transaction be handled as far as shipping the car and sending money.

Have you looked into the shipping costs? I am guessing, but I think shipping the car 2000 miles is going to cost you $1000+. For me, it would have to be a special, rare car to buy it sight unseen, go through the hassels of shipping, payment fees, insurance, etc. and an additional $1000 in cost.

With that said, I would try to find a notary or broker that specializes in car transactions.

Yes... shipping will be around $800-1000. I'm just trying to find out the safest way for the money and title transaction to be handled.

The safest way is through an Escrow service, where they hold the money and the title unitl everything is cleared, they than complete the transaction by dispersing the funds/title. Here is an example: Escrow.com Please note: I have not used this service, know nothing about their reputation, nor am I providing an endorsment.
