Burnouts

I've been wondering, how do people do burnouts and standing burnouts. Someone told me that what you do is gun the car to make the wheels spin, then hit the brake..but won't that stop the rear wheels also? Also can it be done on a steptronic?

Its called a brake stand. You hold the brake , usually with your left foot, and press the gas with your right until you get wheel spin . This wears you brakes down faster and puts some strain on your drivetrain. Most bimmers aren't famous for burning out...
