After being so critical of Pontiac I need to give a huge congratulations. The free cars on the Oprah Winfrey show was absolutely brilliant.

Just look at all the attention they are getting for the 6 Million (cost reports seem to vary). First, they get a hugh amount of time from a spokesperson that commands a tremendous salary for such things. And second they get publicity that goes on and on; I heard this on the radio four times on my way to work and the new Pontiac mentioned continuously.

Congratulations Pontiac, what a brilliant way to introduce a car! [thumb] [clap]

Yes it was a great press day for them. I am sure Oprah got a discount considering how many she bought, and paid cash I bet! The cars seemed nice, I like the sunroofs, but 28k?

Opera didn't buy them!! Pontiac donated them.

Don't even consider the car. I sat in one at the ponatic dealer when I went to the parts department to pick up lsd additive (this was before the dealer told me my car wasn't a pontaic [8)] [8)] [8)] [8)] [unsure] [unsure] [8)])

The interior looks great, but the panels don't line up, and feel loose and just overall typical of the GM's we've owned since 1992.

Brilliant marketing move. Much better than some stupid commercial that the world would have ignored anyways. Oprah has incredible clout, particularly with women. Since Pontiac claims to be targeting women with this stunt, there's no better person to do it with than Oprah. And yeah, it was donated. I saw a report of it costing $7M, but whatever it cost, it seems to have been worth it considering the great pub it got.

Oh, and apparently there were a few lucky people who got tickets to the show and got a free car. Most were in the audience cuz friends/family wrote about their need of a car, but apparently there were a few lucky people who managed to get tickets the regular way.

I am not so hot on the car itself and the price but they sure are getting a lot of coverage for donating the cars. Our local news gave this about a minute last night on how the cars were donated by Pontiac and the audience was pre-selected based on needing a car. They even gave about 10-15 seconds to the car directly.
