Brake Dust Shields

I'm interested in Kleen Wheels brake dust shields and was about to order a set but am concerned they may not fit our wheels....they are the 17" 5 double spoke type with the "M" emblem on them(also known as style 68, I believe). What concerns me is what appears to be wheel balance weights on the inside diameter of each wheel where the shields are supposed to be press fitted inside the wheel.....is it possible these are not balance weights but actually part of the wheel? I'm thinking they are probably weights that are glued onto the inner wheel suface rather than crimped onto the front or back side of the wheel rim like you typically see done. I also assume these would prevent the installation of the dust shields unless they were removed. Any thoughts/experience you may have with these shields will be appreciated.

Brake cooling is a vital issue and if you put dust covers on them etc they will affect the cooling efficiency and even with dust covers, dust will still get through albeit not as much dust.

To help reduce the brake dust, some people just put a bit of light grease or vaseline on the alloys and then just rinse then dust of with a hose. What I do is, I just keep the wheels cleans, I wash them twice a week or once a week at the least, this way when I wash the car the wheels are easier to clean.

Or don't and have dirty rims[poke]

Or get your brake shields and go drive on some windy roads, heat your brakes up to the point of failure and we can read about you in the paper.[thumbd]

A light coat of wax makes cleaning them off with a pressure washer a breeze.

Or switch the brake pads to a less dusty variety.
