Bought an X-Type

Well, I traded in my 97 528i for a Jaguar X-Type. It wasn't my first choice, but some personal circumstances dictated what I could and couldn't buy (long story). It's suppose to come in mid week - I got a great deal on it. It was the only 3.0l 5 speed in the mid US.

It has a sport package. I have to say that the interrior is beautiful.

I will miss the Bimmer greatly, but I won't miss the repair bills that were running close to 4k this year.

Sounds like a nice car, it should really 'roar' (ha, get it, a Jaguar roars! [;)]) with the 3.0 and the 5-speed. I really like those Jaguars, maybe one day you'll start posting on Jaguar message boards.....

What color is it?

Congrats! I don't feel sorry for you at all....that was mean, and stupid for someone to say that.

You are getting rid of a 6 year old car which most likely has zero warranty, and getting a brand new Jaguar....and Jaguar scores really, really high with Consumer Reports, Intellichoice and JD Powers in terms of Reliability.

Yes, you might miss your Bimmer, but I think you will love your baby Jag. Congrats, and drive careful [driving]

Well, I expected the hostilities - I even debated if I should post or not. The Jaguar is a nice car and still fun to drive. I have had my share of Bimmers, probably more than most of you on this board. They are a wonderful cars, but they have their share of problems.

SO True....I think you are going to miss your 4k bills. Jags are even more expensive to maintain.
Jaguar, like BMW, has free maintanence for the first 4 yr/50k. And NO I won't miss those 4k worth of bills. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and sacrifice what you really want. The car is very pretty and the interior is one of the nicest I seen.

The Jag I purchased is red with black interior.

Congrats. You'll be fine. That Jaguar is better designed than the older Jags. And, like you said, the first 4 years will be cost free basically. It's just that after that, it is a Ford and the accompanying problems, but since your BMW was giving you a ton of problems, won't be any different.

Congratulations on the new Jag. My uncle has an X-type 3.0. Man, it's a nice car and I love the styling. I agree about the interior. I didn't know they were available with manuals. That should make for a very fun car to drive!

Congrats on the car!! Take lots of pictures as soon as you get it! The X-Type is a great (and great-looking) sport sedan, I hope you have lots of fun with it.

And no, you shouldn't expect hostility and you shouldn't have received any just because you didn't get a BMW. BMW is not always the "right choice" for a new car, even if you're a true BMW enthusiast. Enjoy the car, don't regret it, and just promise you'll get the BMW next time around. [;)]

The only thing that scares me about Jaguar (Ford in general) is that if you get into an accident, it takes Jaguar months just to get their hands on the replacement parts to fix the car. But I think Jaguar is doing really great and the X-Type is definitely a winner of a car.

Is it just me, or does Jaguar have the most pimp daddy interiors you've ever seen in your life?

No. I happen to think Range Rover, Rolls Royce, Bentley and Aston Martin have better interiors.
Hahaha, they sure do but you get my point. I wouldn't put the Range Rover high up there with the others, though. For an SUV interior it's the best, but lots of luxury cars have better interiors.

Thanks everyone. When I get it I will post pics. I don't plan on keeping it more than four years and I still think it will be a really fun car to drive.

Jags are very sweet cars. I test drove one about a month ago. Like you said the interior is absolutely beautiful. A 5-speed 3.0l will be very fun to drive. Get some pics as soon as possible and make sure to still hand around this forum. The more car (not just BMW) enthusiast we have here the better. Congrats...

Congratulations!

That is a very nice car you purchased. I sure wouldn’t apologize or explain why you bought it over others. Cars are nice and fun but still just cars. And if you think about it the X Type is way nicer than most cars on the road.
