Yeah that's what I'm referencing "I spoke" to some people that I know that work for BMW NA down in Spartanburg and they said that BMW wasn't buidling one (don't know). I'd be upset if they didn't because I think they need to build one.

At first I would say no, because a Z4 3.0i fully loaded already comes to about $50,000 MSRP. How many people are going to be willing to pay another $5K-$10K for an M version of a tiny little Z4?
But now that Mercedes has rolled out their new SLK55 AMG (0-60 in 4.9 seconds vs the Z4's 5.9 seconds) that comes to like $68K fully loaded, I think it's only a matter of time...

I just read a thread over at Z4um.com dated late today regarding the V8 Z4:

"Brief article in this week's Autocar suggesting definitely will be made next year - probably with 400bhp v8"

[headbang]

AutoCar is a British mag, this was posted by a Brit.

There was a hint last fall. The CEO of BMW was interviewed and quoted saying that if there was sufficient demand, there could be a ///M Roadster or similar.

Another more recent article with the head of the ///M division stated that they are considering various options.

I actually recently heard that the next-gen M3 will not have that 400hp 4.0L V8 that we all heard about. I heard/read BMW very recently announced that they are going to stick to the I6.

I really hope this is true. I don't know why there is such an emphasis on power these days and an I6 is always a more rewarding engine than a V8 (especially if they're mated to a manual tranny).

I stumbled across a new thread about the Z4M this week on a German site I visit. The mystery deepens!

Glaubt mir...Er kommt.
Sondern 6

Believe me, it is coming. But unlike what many others say, not with an 8 cylinder... It's a 6.

The company Siemens VDO can say what...or? I cannot offer a picture of the motor because I will get in trouble.

I am the ECU designer and the Z4M program will be developed by us.

Another person says:

I looked out my window and what a coincidence, a Z4 with quad exhaust drove by. He was too fast for me to take a picture, but thru the closed window I heard the V8 exhaust sound.

Designer's response:
IT IS NOT A V8, it is a new version of the 3.2 liter with somewhat more horsepower.

Another says:
Oh it will be the motor from the M3 CSL. I don't believe you.

Designer:
Der Beweis....
The Proof

He posted pictures for a short time but edited the post and removed them!!!

Designer:
Glaubt mir....!!!! Soo, lang genug gekuggt, is mir zu heiss....
Believe me!!!!! Open the hood of your car and compare. So long, it is too hot (dangerous) of a topic to continue.

I've read that the 3.2 litre six in the M3 and M3 CSL is at the end of it's development. BMW can't get any substantial increase from the engine as it is over the 100BHP/litre measure in any case.

If it's a six then it must be a completely new design...
