SPARTANBURG, S.C. - A former employee at the BMW plant in Greer is accused of taking $486,000 in parts from the plant in the past two years.
Eric Jason Pitts, 27, of Clinton, is accused of selling 270 Mark-IV navigational units online at heavily discounted prices, Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said.
Each unit, which displays a digital map to help with driving directions, is valued at $1,800, and some were sold for as little as $800.
Pitts has been charged with grand larceny of more than $5,000.
Pitts installed the units in vehicles at the Greer plant, Wright said.
Deputies seized three late-model vehicles from Pitts' residence.
Pitts, who worked for BMW for five years, has been released on bail.
BMW security had monitored the inventory and turned over information to the sheriff's department, who arrested Pitts at his home Aug. 23.
