Ideas, references, or just a question w/o known answer would be great.
the more the merrier

thanks [headbang]

"m3" was the name of one the engines/planes the Nazi used(i think).
bmw also built engines for the highest flying planes in 1919.
Rapp Motorenwerke and Otto Werke merged in 1916 to become BMW.
in 1935 the 328 was introduced, YAY!
in 1975 BMW NA was established.
in march 1998 bmw acquired british rolls royce for $580 million.

BFW+RMW=BMW~1916
First aircraft engine is Type IIIa--a none other than a straight six. Sets record 29 minutes to 5000m altitude. Type IV sets altitude record of 32,013ft ~1918--another straight six engine.
Treaty of Versaille forces BMW to switch to railway brakes ~1919.
BMW first CEO: Franz-Josesf Popp
1920: first motorcycle, M2 B 15 engine for "Victoria" model.
1933: first auto engine and debut of kidney grille for 303 model. Yet another sweet straight six.

As you can see now why BMW's inline Six is soooooo smooth. They have almost a century of perfection. Even their first six came out kicking a$$.

The first american (maybe european too) 2002 turbo models had something like turbo or 2002 turbo or something painted mirrored or just trim in the front so when it approaches you in the rear view mirror you can read what it is before it overcomes you. They stopped that because I think the US government didn't like that, like too spporty or something. I got a few more don't remember of the start, oh on older BMWs when the kick down button gets stuck it keeps riding the lowest gear and one the e36 if the kick down button is pressed without full throttle it gives off an error message and then uses the highest gear.

The 540i actually has a 4.4l engine in it too. Well some of them. The 323i has a 2.5l engine, just detuned from a 325i. The 2.8i engine is the 2.5i just bored and such giving it a much straighter torque curve and the power comes on at earlier rpm but it still has only 1 hp more.

1943: first jet engine 109-003
BMW first Bicycle, 1945---why after the war, BMW loses 4 factories and is in ruins. Also, Allies impose a 3-yr ban on BMW 'cause of their involvement in producing aircraft engines and rockets for the war.
