"BMW has decided to diversify further into multi-purpose vehicles - "people carriers". It comes after nearly two years of studying the market's potential.

The company will decide before June which of several already-developed concept vehicles will form the basis of the project. "We've now moved beyond the 'whether'. It's definitely coming in some form," Helmut Panke, chairman, told the FT.

The decision comes a few months after BMW's venture into the hatchback market with its 1-Series "small" car."

I have a feeling it'll never make it over here, especially since they called it a "people mover" and not a van. "People mover" is what they call them in the UK, and the van's over there are totally different than ours.

The thing you people are forgetting is there are lot of people who need the services of these types of vehicles. True, Toyota, Chrysler, Ford, Chevy, etc.. are the main auto manufactures that produce these, but there is no reason BMW shouldn’t get into the market. Granted I would have to see one in person, but if you had a choice and need for one of these types of vehicle, wouldn't you give BMW look?

It is not written in law that BMW should stay out of this market, because they build or are known for building sport sedans etc...

Just my .02! I am getting of soapbox now....

I like it, I'm a big fan of hatchbacks and wagons. If BMW offered that today and made it affordable, I would probably buy it and use it as a commuter.

I too like hatches and wagons. I have been trying to get my wife to look at the BMW wagon, the Volvo Crosscountry, or someting else when we get rid of the Honda Passport in the coming year. I haven't look into anything yet. She wants the new Volvo SUV/SAV or whatever they call that thing. It is nice though.

The Volvo XC90 is really nice Scott, especially now that they offer it in the V8 trim. I was interested in one a few months ago and could have bought one at $200 over invoice. I'm sure if you haggle a bit, you can do better.
