The text below is a machine translation of an interview with the head of the ///M division. This was in Auto Motor und Sport magazine. In summary, he says that they plan to significantly increase M production, and new models of M cars will be delivered about a year after the M5. The article specifically refers to the ///M Roadster. [headbang] and a supercar on the Mercedes SLR/Porsche Carrera GT level. Also, he specifically states no ///M X3 or X5. Read below:

BMW: Visions of the m-People the sporty daughter of BMW, the BMWS M GmbH wants to grow with new models further.
Like managing director Ulrich Bruhnke on Tuesday (16.2.) announced, the number of the produced m-vehicles
is to rise at the latest from the coming year on clearly over the current 20,000 units.
But Bruhnke sets on an expansion of the model pallet: Beside the M5 with V10-Motor, already announced,
stand after information from enterprise circles a m-version of the new
6ers, within period of one year with the V10 from the M5 as Coupé and Cabrio
on the market to come could, on the agenda. One think in view of numerous customer inquiries and the sumptuous
Tuning offer according to own data also about a m-version of the Z4-Roadsters.

At the upper end of the m-pallet Bruhnke in the long term even sees a
supersports car, that it with the Mercedes SLR, the Porsche Carrera GT or the AUDI Le Mans to take up could.
The new boss already carries this "vision of the coworkers" as model
in the bag, but so far neither market studies nor development orders were issued.
One assumes that nevertheless in the surrounding field of the
enterprise, that already on one of the next motor shows an appropriate Design
study one reveals.
The new managing director does not see m-combinations and a jeep fewer
chances against it for sporty versions of the jeeps X3 and X5, in their segment the guidance
to transfer would know, within the M GmbH however not to sporty agilen philosophy fit.
Likewise little optimistically Bruhnke evaluates the prospects for
m-combinations, because the Touring on the chief market the USA plays only a
subordinated role.

Technologically the M GmbH set according to Bruhnke in contrast to the
competition with Mercedes AMG or the AUDI daughter Quattro GmbH also
further on highly turning suction engines without loading with turbo
or compressor. In addition the Bavarian sport department wants to force the
lightweight construction and to present therefore similarly to the
abgespeckten M3 CSL in the future further sports cars with racing
course fitness.

The supercars is such a Teeney Tiny speck on the car market that the introduction of a car by BMW in the lines of the SLR or Lemanns is not going to be cost effective. BMW used to set the standard in the market...not try to keep up. The introduction of a BMW supercar will look like a desparate attempt to keep up with its fellow German rivals.

Seems to me that BMW has already set the standard for German supercars, and it's the other german rivals who are trying to catch up - figuratively and literally. Maybe a BMW street supercar will be toned down, capitalizing on the current success of this:

[scratch] What BMW "supercar" are you refering to? BMW has the ///M line up as far as I know that is it. Mercedes has its 55 AMG series to match and Audi has its S series. BMW does not have anything like the McLaren SLR or this new Audi Lemanns. You cannot compare the M3 GTR to the SLR two completely different levels of car

The F1 Williams BMW. This is a $2 million car, certainly heads and shoulders above anything Mercedes or Porsche has. A BMW supercar probably wouldn't be a upgrade of an ///M 3/5/7 series, I think it would be based on the technology developed for the F1 car.

BMW needs a supercar for sale. Jeez, even Chrysler will have one? We need something to drool over and imagine ourselves in when we're driving our mere-mortal machines. I say this only if Bangle has nothing to do with the project.

Mercedes has aready done this..McLaren/Mercedes, Mclaren SLR...see what I am getting at. If BMW creats a "super car" based on its F1 car, then it will look like BMW is trying to acheive what Mercedes has already done. Trying to keep up...not set the corner for the market. Bmw needs to build something COMPLETELY off the hook to to re-establish itself.
