FRANKFURT, Germany -- Automaker BMW AG said Friday that sales of its cars rose 13.7 percent in July compared to the same month last year because of strong demand for its new 3-series sedan.
The company said it sold 110,957 cars worldwide, including its BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands.
Unit sales for the BMW brand rose 15 percent to 93,797 vehicles. In North America, sales were up 13. 1 percent with 28,713 cars sold, while in western Europe, July sales gained 9 percent to 63,090, compared to July 2004.
Sales of the company's Mini brand rose 7.1 percent, with 17,115 sold. Rolls-Royce sales advanced 15.4 percent with 45 Phantom models sold in July.
Motorcycle sales for July edged up 0.3 percent to 9,877 vehicles.
Shares of BMW were down less than half a percent to 36.97 euros ($45.54) in Frankfurt trading.
