Hello, I'm new to the site so i thought i'd introduce myself very quickly.

I'm a huge BMW fan, and very passionate about cars. I own a 68 Mustang myself which i am in the process of restoring.
I am also a full time college student and work with video part-time.

Particularly, i've created a BMW M3 video this past fall with my crew and i thought i'd share it with you guys. I have it on my site (which is undergoing a new design) http://www.airprodu.com you can find the video there and i promise you wont be disappointed! Hundreds of hours went into the making of this video and it isn't just simple burn outs and tinted windows and big speakers.

My brother and I are starting a TV show in Charlotte, NC which includes a 10 minute segment of cars that we film. We are currently in the process of filming other cars, but our first car was this BMW M3 and it was truly an amazing experience! I would love to get some feedback and/or comments from you guys. I also own a forum (link here ).

I would really appreciate if you guys took a minute or two to post some constructive crticism, feedback and/or ideas for future projects.

I truly appreciate your consideration and i'm glad to have joined this forum!

-Ivan

Some advice for your site, use photoshop or something to resize pictures. You won't get the jagged alised edges when resizing (like your main picture.)

I'll dl the video tonight though.

Well,,, That's a very amusing video... My favorite line " It will pick up a girls in 5 seconds" LOL that's a funny line, I will use it sometime.

I admire the fact that you are only 18 years old, and your drive for success is inspiring.

I work for my family and one of my jobs is advertising. I have to design ads, turn them in and have them rejected to redisgn them again. It's not my favorite part of the job but I learn something new with every ad, and my ads keep improving.

Constructive Criticism sucks, but here you go.
The video is very nice, I enjoyed the intro with the music and MBadge timing was excellent. I enjoyed the slow motion transitions, very nice. My knowledge of camera tricks is zilch. I do know that if you want to sell something you need descriptive words. Question, who is your audience? How old are they? Why are you making the video. Knowing who your audience is will determine what words to use.

Your video seems to lack an educated description of the product.
Does your audience know what SMG is?

My fiancee owns an X5, she watched your video and loves it. She laughed at all the witty jokes, she said it's very entertaining and would enjoy watching video's like this on tv.

I wish you the best of luck. I believe you are well on your way to a succesful career in film.

When you finish your next video post it.

First off Welcome to the Board. Nice set of wheels you are working on restoring, it would be great if you could keep a photo journal of your progress and post it for us to see how it is coming along. I will check out your video as soon as I can get on a non military computer that lets me check it out.

Once again welcome and most often.

Great video, but you spent the whole time praising the car than actually reviewing it. You didn't really critique the car and it sounds like you don't know much about cars in general. This was more about a BMW fanboy justifying his purchase as opposed to a real review of the M3.

P.S. I'm so harsh and I just can't help myself.

I'd also like to respond to your post MReedBMWM3. First, i'd like to thank you for taking so much time to give me some good advice! I'm only my second semester into college with further plans of going into advertising/marketing so i have a general knowledge of some of the questions that you posed, but not as technical and in-depth as i will once i complete my education.

In response to your comment about not being descriptive, and MrElussive's comment about "not really knowing much about cars," i just want to point out that our target audience is not necessarily a BMW forum where it is ever-present with BMW savvy guys. MReedBMWM3, you mentioned that your fianncee enjoyed watching the video, perfect, then our goal is accomplished. In making this video, i want something that kids who like cars, or adults who own the car themselves can all watch and enjoy the video.

Of course listing specs and getting nice shots of the car would be the ideal way of making this for the perfect car enthusiast, but thats...just boring. Our goal is to market these car videos as entertaining, yet informative and exciting. Of course, in my opinion we are far from those goals but seeing as this is our first project (in which many mistakes were made, and many lessons learned) I think it came out alright.

For instance, even though i stayed that we would like to have the video's appeal to a larger audience than the male car enthusiast and MReedBMWM3, you were right to point out the question as to what an SMG system really is. Once again, this is where i thank you guys for the feedback because after viewing my own video 12515125215 million times to check for things i am still going to inevitably look over things, so its good to get an independent third party's thoughts...so thank you for that... and yes the rims are 19" nadroj [burnout] --another good example of something small that we overlooked *doh*

anyways, i know i'm writing a book here so i'll stop after this last statement,
MrElussive, the car was critiqued, in fact there was a large emphasis put on the price tag, not to mention the tight suspension that can be uncomfortable at times. Nonetheless, you are partially right in that this is somewhat of a "pump-up" video about the car--but in all reality, there is not much to critique about the M3--although it is expensive, it's one hell of a car for the price tag.

ah, and one last thing, MrElussive, the M3 isn't ours we borrowd it so we're not trying to justify anyone's purchase for both my brother and i are just mere college students trying to make it by.

Ivan,

Do you do your editing on a mac?
Are you using an HD camera?

I purchased an Imac for xmas and I love it..... I plan on making a personal video of my 95 M3. I have already put together a fun slide show.

yo guys is it just me, or is Ivan's 1-2 shift a bit slow? Look at the video at 6:05 to about 6:11...Ivan burned the clutch a lil bit on that shift, huh? [:p]

Ivan, don't get me wrong, the video is great, I've watched it a bunch of times now. But there were just some facts that weren't exact. For example, the wheels were obviously the optional 19's and as pointed out above, you guys said they were the 18's. I like the "lamens terms" approach you guys took throughout the video, but you guys did not really talk about the way the car drives. You said the car is fast, but you did not talk about the ride quality or the handling. Also, I would have liked to see you point out the features instead of just showing lots of angles of the interior.
When you were talking about the interior, you should mention that the car has memory seats, optional premium stereo system, option navigation system, etc. It is more important to talk about these main features of the car as opposed to the way lights fade in and out when you open and close the doors (many cars do that).

I use Adobe premiere Pro...i unfortunately own a PC =(

The camera and equipment we used is actually probably the cheapest poor quality crap you can find and that is also unfortunate. However, since then (Filmed in Late Summer of 05) i've collected a good deal of equipment so it won't be as shaky, the quality will be a lot better, and the sound will be better.

I don't have an HD camera, i don't even have the funds to buy free bread, but i have friends willing to loan an XL2, XL1, and/or sound and lighting equipment... It's good to have friends =)

MrElussive--I agree with you, i have to say that the dialogue content is probably one of the biggest things we avoided in this video and one of the biggest lessons we learned. For the next project there is definietly a lot more pre-production planning going on. Then again, regardless of how much we all plan and practice--we're still humans right =P
I might add, that we aren't getting paid for this, I, along with everyone else that helped have volunteered near 150 hours of hard work to pull the first video out...it's a lot easier to make better videos with better equipment and umm....motivation =)

nonetheless, that isn't an excuse for me, but just trying to defend myself lol

but i definietly agree with you MrElussive, there were to many things in the M3 video that were overlooked that should have been planned out right from the start. Thanks for your good feedback!

and oh ya, i don't think the shift is slow--it looks fine to me--and thats not me driving =P im the nerd behind the camera all the time lol

Ivan, it's good that you posted this thread and you are taking our critiques extremely well. Nobody expects a near-perfect first video and this is one of those things that you will get better at with time and experience. From watching the review, I thought it was just some dude telling us about his M3...we all know the M3 is an amazing vehicle. It sounds like you guys really care about this and you should definitely keep going as there is no doubt that it is entertaining to watch.

Ivan - Great video! I say that mainly because I have that exact car and I also live in the Charlotte area. Kinda of strange. It was like seeing my car tooling around South park.

Keep up the good work!

I laughed at the credits. That really made me laugh.

If you're still in college, this is a really good job.
Moreover, the more you do it, the better you'll get. Just practice. Good luck man.

Thanks once again guys for all the advice! I really hope that my next video will be a lot better--and i'll keep you guys informed (if you care) as the progress goes on. And don't worry epj3...i'll get a stabalizer by then =P

@jkrong-- thats really cool that you live in Charlotte, I'm currently at WFU, but my family has just moved off of Rocky River Road (right off of 485) at the cabarrus/Mecklenburg county line area, but i used to live in Highland Creek (near Concord Mills). It's good to know that someone else is from Charlotte =)
