I just got the latest article of Automobile and on the cover is a pic of an M2. They said that BMW will not be selling the 1 series in the US, but will sell the 2 series instead. The 220i will come with 2 liter 150hp, or a 200hp turbo 2l engine. The 250i will most likely come with the 2.5l 250hp I6 and the M2 will most likely come with a 300hp I6. The 2 series is also suppose to come in a cabriolet.

I dunno about the engine specs, of course this early in the game they may still be deciding. From info I read, there was not going to be a inline 6 (or any 6 cylinder) engine placed in the new 1/2 series, as this would conflict with 3 series sales. The engine specs I've seen (Will hunt it down, believe it was on bimmerforums, actual paste from a Mag article as well) was as follows:

1.6l - 135hp
1.8l - 150hp
2.0l (FI) - 200hp
2.4l (FI) - 240hp (M2)

All 4 bangers, no 6 cylinders.

I've been hearing the same thing about the 1 series.. That sucks, I think they could sell a horde of hatchback turbo'd cars, quite a market for that in the states at the moment.

I was all set to get the wife a 1 series hatch.. Guess it's back to 325iT searching..

i thought they were going to sell the 1s here to compete with the golf/gti's... i guess i was mistaken. thats a shame because they would do very well here with low gas mi. and so appealing.

Looks real nice. So would it compete with like the 350z, honda S2000, audi TT, etc? Will it be about that size/price range?
No the Z4 competes with those cars, and I think the S2000 is faster than the bmw??

Oh yeah, Duh. I completely forgot about the Z4. I suppose its competing with like the new VW Golf R32 and Subaru WRX Sti, and other cars like those.

Just like BMW......Making a whole class of cars. At least they haven't made anything as ugly as say a......Mercedes A class or that go cart made by Audi the....A2. Nice post....I can't wait to see it live. Y'all will probly see it in the states before I see it over here.....SAD

Some things from the article that haven't been mentioned yet:
NO idrive!!!!!
push button start
no high tech goodies:active steering, dynamic drive control, electronic damping control and 4wd
prices: low to mid 20's to low 30's for the M2 with a Z2 possible

What the posted pic doesn's show well is the backseat in this car. Automobile also has pics of the regular 2 series (the one posted so far is the M2), as well as the cabrio 2 series as well. Coupe expected late 2005, cabrio, early 2006

It's nice, but it still has those slanted ugly ricer looking headlights. I definitly wouldn't mind having it, they could have done a better job on styling though.
