Lol, yeah but if you try to dip, all that extra armor on the X5 just slows it down like crazy.

enthusiast, I do know about that 760 High Security. Mercedes also offered an "S500 Guard" car that was heavily armored. Just so you know how heavily armored it was, the regular S500 does 0-60 in 6 seconds, whereas the S500 Guard does it in 7.1. [:(]

The 1st Armored Division Commander here in Wiesbaden has the s500 Guard. I was just checking it out last Thursday night. It is classy as all hell. I bet the brakes get smoked quick though. Especially on the Autobahn, all that extra weight.

I think the brakes do fine, actually. I can't speak for the S500 Guard, but my parents' S500s both came with cross-drilled and vented rotors up front, and vented rotors in the rear. All four rotors are quite large and the brakes pedal feel is very progressive and they do a great job of bringing the "beast" to a halt.

I wonder what the passing specs are for the armored glass. I once saw in Discovery HD that they shot a M-16, an AK-47, and a high powered rifle in three shot triangles about 3in apart. All nine shots were on the same glass, each set about 6in apart. Can you believe that darn thing didnt break. Gotta have a lot of layers some tough stuff to put up to that.

"Emergency exit through the front windscreen.
In an emergency situation the front windscreen can be released in its entirety from its mounting and pushed outwards."

I want that.

Maybe not repeatedly though. I reckon they would probably fade pretty quickly - even the E46 M3 suffers from that affliction.

Yeah, but that is on the track with heavy heavy braking. Normal breaking (even with auto trannies) on the road doesn't even come close to the "abuse" that your brakes will take on the track. MB is German....they know what they're doing.

You can just change the brake pads on the M3 to track pads and it will make a world of difference (on the track), but that will sacrifice drivability on the street.
