For Immediate Release
BMW Films to begin production of the next generation of "The Hire" short films
Hollywood, CA - BMW Films has announced that two Hollywood megastars will be cast in the next generation series of the award winning "The Hire" short films. Executive Producer Carly Einbahn has contracted with Mel Gibson, best known for the "Lethal Weapon" blockbusters and his controversial film "The Passion of the Christ". Gibson will star with Julia Roberts of "Mona Lisa Smile" and "Erin Brockovich" fame. Supporting actors include Jack Black of "School of Rock" and Shannon Dougherty of "Beverly Hills 90210". The new series of films will be released under the title "The Driver".
In the first of 5 planned titles, Gibson and Roberts will blend roles and characters from previous films in an action filled mystery. Gibson's role as "The Driver" portrays a German taxi driver while Roberts stars as an attorney specializing in consumer protection. The pair, who narrowly escape injury while traveling in Gibson's 325xi taxi due to a transmission failure, believe they have discovered a plot of deception. While investigating the extent of the defect and the impact on consumers, the team develop the theory that a group of rogue BMW employees are brain washed at a closed to the public manufacturing facility and pose as private BMW car owners. Black and Dougherty, supposed leaders of the evil minions referred to in the film as "The Poseurs", are accused of monitoring Internet message boards and spreading false and deceptive information regarding the defect.
Filming is to begin April 1, 2004 and take approximately 8 weeks. Additional shorts will be filmed and released as a compilation on DVD on April 1, 2005.
