Well i go in to my local BMW in Louisville, just to get a boot badge for my 525i. And first of all i get stared at by everyone in the place, like i wasnt supposed to be there. Im 20 and dressed in Jeans and a Gucci button down. I thought it was quite interesting. anyway so i walk up to the service counter after being escorted to it by the receptionist because apparently she thought i would get lost or something. Then the parts guy tried to say my car was an e39 bodystyle but yet refused to go look at it. Its a 95 525i ( e34 ). The guy tried to act like i couldnt afford the badge. I looked at him like he was an idiot and said "do you not want me to buy the badge, if so ill leave right now." He was an a$$. Im looking forward to when i go get my e60 530i at the beginning of the year. This ought to be good. It just kind of sucks, that just because your young they automatically assume that you cant afford their product. I own my own business and am doing quite well. So anyway i just had to vent a little bit. Anyone feel free to share your stories.

customers should always be treated politely and respectfully regardless of their age, sex, race, or what not. so, it sounds like this dealership could use some major brush-up lessons in customer service. i would speak to their service dept manager, if u feel strongly enough about this incident...

that said, i can't say that i know any 20 year olds who can afford a new 530i on their own. u are probably the first.

on the flip side, i see plenty of spoiled, rich kids at the dealers all the time. and, it very well could be that the bad manerisms of these kids are giving u a bad rap?

service dept staff are people too. and, it's not completely unreasonable to think that they would be slightly surprised or taken back by your age- probably from bad experiences dealing w/ younger customers due to their bad manerisms or what not- even though that is still no excuse to provide sub-standard service to anyone.

I'd complain. I get treated like crap more often that not cuz I look young. I'm still mad at Fletcher Jones Mercedes and would be mad at Toyota in Cerritos except they got bought out and are under new management now.

that said, bmw dealerships in general are snobby. i recall when i was shopping for my car back in 98, some dealership sales totally made eye contact and then proceeded to ignored me altogether... probably 'cuz i also looked young and didn't look like i could afford a car? <lol> sucks that they are so shallow. but, that just meant i would buy my car at a dealer that treated me nice, and no sale for the assholes. life has a way of evening things out.

Can't blame them though, Detrich. They earn a living through comission and if they think you'll waste their time while a definite possible sale walks in, then they'll seem snobbish.

They have all been nice at my local dealership though.
