Omgomgomgomg honda had this in a concept car like 10 years ago!! COPY CATS!!111111

(I'm being bmw046series only opposite!!)

That would be sick, having 'autopark', especially in the middle of a busy city.

This is stupid....parallel parking is just something that comes with experience and having a brain. Parallel parking in NYC is such a fun challenge and teaches you to be a master of your domain.

You got that right, I especially like that feeling you get when you step out of the car and notice that there is less then a foot left between your car and the car behind and in front.

I bet the Auto Park system only works when there is more then enough space for the car to be parked; which shouldn't be a pain to get into but still gives you experience and practice which would be much needed once you have to park in a real tight spot. Personally I wouldn't pay anything extra for that feature but then again I'm not buying a brand new car anytime soon.

Screw that, I could parallel park the van like a champ, the 3er and 5er were/are no problem. I just generally hate doing it especially in the middle of a city.

It's just an understanding. When you've landed a spot, the other drivers will have the patience for you to get in there. Nobody is going to get out of their car and fight you because you're trying to park.

I think this system is great for all the idiots who are too shy to learn/try parallel parking....once again, BMW is reeling in the newbs.

aparently you've never watched seinfeld!! [wiggle]

Another point is I think a lot of people who are first-time buyers in the class of BMW's and mercedes, are intimidated to drive such a considerably expensive car. This is just something that will help further ease the minds of drivers like that.

I really can't believe you people don't get worked up over stuff like variable ratio steering, traction control thats on all the time, stability control instead of a REAL limited slip (no emile, its not even CLOSE to the same thing), overboosted steering, different levels of 'performance' for no real reason (other to save gas on the new M5 and M6), etc. That shit all takes away from the driving experience.

But a parking assist, which does something for you that definitely does not define anything but the knowledge of your car's placement.

Word, parallel parking teaches the dimensions of your car very well...

None the less that is pretty sick.

If it was a thread about any of those other things we just might.

You are right though, BMW messing with the steering is pretty much like reworking something that has been known to perform great for no reason what so ever. I would much rather take an LSD over traction or stability control. Different levels of performance, well, I guess thats not as bad because you can always just go to the highest level, unlike not being able to turn traction/stability control off or stop the steering ratio from changing.

Once again, I'm not in the market for a new bimmer (or MB in case of traction/stability control) so these things are not some of my priorities.

Yea I agree but everyone is awe struck over traction control that can lock up one of the rear wheels to try to transfer power, when a limited slip could do the job much better, albeit more expensive. Nobody seems to get pissed over the system designed to TAKE AWAY power replacing a system designed to share power. Just one example though.

But a system designed to make life a little easier that will not ever effect general driveability, is taking away from the driving experience? WTF?
