Yeah especially BMW and maybe AUDI because other Jap companies have upped the ante...not a little bit but a lotta bit(look at Nissan and Infinity in the past year...with their new releases they aimed right at BMW and AUDI and maybe even VW.....consumers, journalists and car gurus love their new iterations......) For whom the bell tolls.......(Metallica is still DA BOMB though!!!![:D] [thumb]

It's mixed bag for BMW. 7 series design sucks, I-drive sucks, reliability sucks but sales are still higher than previous 7?

I'll bet 3 series is only recommended because it's a tried and tested design. Just wait until the next 3 series comes out and reliability will fall down the toilet....

OOOH Chendol may have pegged this one!
If I were to buy a 7 series it would NOT be new model! Ditto 5 series.
Now we have 4 series to contend with!
I LOVE German cars! I have owned some very reliable Honda's, Nissan once-NEVER again!
A lot of people lease, or trade, buy after a few years. I tend to think long term and see MANY older Mercedes, BMW cars around that are old enough to call classics. I don't see that with Jap cars. I buy a car thinking I may want to keep it for awhile.
When I see a lot of 40 year old jap cars running around I may consider it.

The older Mercedes were overengineered. That stopped somewhere in the late 90s. The mid-90s ones weren't really over engineered either. German quality has definitely gone downhill. I don't expect to see too many german cars old enough to be called classics from this current era either.

I know the news has mentioned Detroit's supposed increase in quality. While they have improved, I still don't think they have anything to brag about. Consider this article:
