Those who criticized BMW's radical new look when it debuted on the 7-series four years ago can address their apology notes to: Chris Bangle, design director, BMW headquarters, Munich, Germany.
Other automakers are now adapting the look for their new models, following a path only BMW had the guts and style to blaze.
The latest example is the Ford Iosis concept car, which foreshadows the design of future Ford production models. The Iosis' juxtaposition of bulging flares, scooped out curves and sharply creased lines would have been unthinkable if BMW hadn't led the way.
The dramatic trunk lid of the new Pontiac G6 coupe and some of the subtle lines on the new Mercedes S-class also owe a nod to BMW.
