Bad CV Joint?

I think one or a few of my CV joints are dieing. When I am going about 10 mph or less and slowing down, I hear a click click click click from the rear that is very audible and easily felt. It only happened 3 times in the past 4 days. I also had it just happen to me when i backed out of my drivway going like 5 mph at most.

Is this DEFINITELY what it is? I know the brakes need to be replaced VERY bad in the back, and it only happens when I have my foot on the brake.

Will it be a specifically difficult repair?? I know it's going to be super expensive (ie around $800), but how hard will it be?

the boots are checked for rips but should be it.

did you mean 80 dollars? I've never done one for rear wheel drive so i can't really help if it is difficult or not.

I agree with mjbst111, they will fail a cracked boot if they see it. If they hear/feel it, they are supposed to fail only things that are safety violations, unfortunately that's probably a judgement call and whether or not the station needs work.

Word of caution - some places will suggest cleaning the CV joint to save money over replacement. The problem is that if it's dirty, it's already damaged, and you are spending money that only delays the replacement.

Drove another 23 miles just now and no clicking. When I push down on the back of the car, when it comes back up theres a very quiet 'squeak', but I think it's the trailing arm bushings which appear to be a little worn.
