I just finished reading the 2004 issue of Automobile Magazine's 50 of the Best cars. There were like 3 or 4 Benzes, and Audi, Porsche, tons of American and Japanese cars....but no BMWs listed in the top 50???

What is happening? There was a time when almost every car magazine was flooded with BMW praise and hype. Couldn't the new 5 or maybe even a 750iL make the list?

A sad day indeed [bigcry]

I'm surprised there were no BMW's in the list. I guess when the magazine put the MB's, Audi's, and Porsche's in there, they figured that they took care of all the Germans and shouldn't bother with BMW??? I dunno, but that's certainly weird....the M3 deserves to at least be in the list, if not in the top 10.

It sounds like something fishy is going on. Even if you hate BMW, there's just no rational way that a BMW doesn't make the top 50. Come on, the M3 and the new 6 series should be top 10 or top 15 contenders!

I know that styling is subjective, so I'm not going to bring that up, but I think the new 645Ci is insanely expensive. I can't justify the price of a fully loaded one...for the same price, you can get a 745 fully loaded to the rim, and I think you get much more car for the money.

Yeah i agree but the 745i/il looks like an absolute pig. I'm sure BMW has placed the price "competitively" in order to shift the new 7's as the sales rate has plummeted.

The 6 series wouldn't make that list. It's too expensive and not all that outstanding.

The M3 and M5 should have made it though. Then again, Automobile has some weird choices every now and then. I don't hold that magazine in that high regard.

While I agree with hornyhornet that the 3 series (e30, e36 or e46) deserve to be in that list, you should check your history. Chris Bangle has been around since the 1995 redesign of the e38 7 series. It is interesting to note that he was quoted as saying (i'm paraphrasing here) that in the new 7 series, he was going for evolutionary not revolutionary change as BMW owners are a rather conservative bunch and do not react well to radical design changes. What a difference 7 years makes, eh?

It just goes to show how much of a d*** Bangle really is. I hope BMW gets rid of him before he ruins the company. Having said that, i do believe that BMW have 'reshuffled' him into a more 'administrative' post... There's hope yet.
