It is time again to discuss auto insurance. Tell us who you are with, are you getting a good rate, or a GREAT rate? Or at least do you think you are getting a good rate? A lot of us track junkies are noticing a move toward no coverage for any event, even a driver's school, if it is held on a race track. I know USAA has removed any coverage on a track, as has Safeco, what about your insurance company?

I have Gieco. I have a good deal. Less than $800 a year, but the car is not in my name, that's primarily why.

I do not have full coverage for myself. If someone hits me, I have to deal with the other guys insurance company, Geico will not fix my car and that haggle with the insurance company; I got to do it on my own.
But I'm covered up to $500,000 for liability and my deductible is $500.

I'm not too impressed with Geico. They advertise that the first accident you have, if you've had insurance with them for 10 plus years, will not affect your rates. I was in an accident, I reported to Geico. They told me, "sorry, we cannot help you any further, you do not have comprehensive; thank you for reporting the accident and good luck with the other insurance company." My dad then, a year or two later had an accident. The rates go up. My dad calls the insurance company saying, "what about this provision in the K that says first accident is 'forgiven' if had insurance for +10yrs?" There response, "you reported an accident in May 2004." My dad responds, "But you guys didn't pay a dime, nor did you help with the collection process; you left the entire matter for us to resolve." The insurance rep replies, "But you reported the accident to us. We recorded it; that counts."

You can imagine the frustration. In the end a "manager" was consulted and they relented and reduced; but as far as customer service, eh... I'm not terribly pleased. But, you get what you pay for. Stupid commercials and bad service.

I use GHS - they are competitive on car insurance but they kill everyone else in home coverage. I hit a curb a while back and they were great about taking care of everything quickly.

You know the scam I've notcied auto insurance companies are basing their rates on credit, IMO a joke. So if someone files bankruptcy they will pay exceedingly high rates or have a harder time finding affordable coverage. My suggestion to everyone is when shopping for auto insurance find out how they are basing the rates.
