how many people honestly do research on their cars before adding performance mods?
after reading some of these post where someone gets beat by another car and cant figure out why and then wants to do performance mods just so they dont get beat.
and some people recommend doing the most expensive mods or sell their car and get another just to keep up is stupid.
i know the technology changes, improves and gets harder to do mods on certain cars but mostly the basic stuff stays the same.

Well in my country people love to mod Japanese cars. My friends constantly tell me 'hey put on a cool air intake or a turbo charger' but wats the sense doing all that and i still can outpace them with my stock 520i. only modified skylines and evos can really beat my car so i dont really make a fuss about it. i also try to take my time when purchasing products now to make sure i do get whatever improvement i need. i have to agree with you on that.

there are a lot of products out there that give you marginal benefits in power and such, and you really have to do a cost-benefit analysis to see whether it is really worth it to purchase them. You can look at it that way, or you can look at it in the way that, every little thing adds up in the end to give you a significant upgrade.

I could barely pull on my friends chipped but otherwise stock '94 325i lastnight.

SO i did some investigating, and it had a restrictive air filter on it (K&N re-useable) that was also filthy. There was also some yarn or something f*cking weird like that stuck in the filter?!?! WTF did someone run into a sheep with my car?

Anyways, got a much less restrictive and clean air filter (oem) and it is pulling muuuuuch better now. I'm anxious to replace the other stuff to free up the motor, like fuel filter and stuff. Damn OBDII kills the S52 above 5000 rpm though [:(]

But my car will get in the future.. (besides brakes and all other maintainence stuff)
-Chip
-Manifold
-Cams
-HFM upgrades
-OBDI conversion (only if I can find a mechanic to "under-the-table" my emissions...)
-LTW flywheel when I do the clutch
-Probably pulleys and electric fan conversion.

Hopefully that would be around 260 hp at the wheels...which is 20 more than what it is supposed to have at the crank. It's a ton of money, and I don't really care because the car is my hobby and is the only time I get to have some fun anymore in the daily scheme of bullshit.

uh the dirtier the filter gets the better its supposed to perform atleast thats what the people at k&n say about their filter.
in a way that's true, as in it will filter better, but it allows less air to travel through - that's what K&N means

if this were true, they would throw dirt on it before you bought it.
