April 2005 U.S. Auto Sales Scorecard

This table aggregated by the AP compares sales in April 2005 with sales in April 2004 and year-to-date totals for the two years. Light trucks include pickups, vans, minivans and sport utility vehicles.

Results for General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler AG do not include U.S. sales of their European brands: Saab, Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz.

Percentages are based on the daily sales rate; there were 27 sales days last month and 26 sales days in April 2004, and 102 sales days for the first four months of 2005 and for the same period a year ago.

i thought porsche's truck sales being clobbered was funny. vonder vhy.. altho it is interesting that some truck sales are going up for some manufacs, like bmw and kia.

GM's actually not doing too bad, was it because they were getting killed last year? hmmm

Who keeps saying the Bangle designs are mitigated by the huge increase in sales? Looks like the truck increase is the new X3? Without that...they'd be down 3%? Or I guess people are just holding off for the new 3? Would be cool to see a break down by car.

Porsche Cayenne sales are down due to lack of inventory. I am an auto broker and I am having a tough time filling orders for Cayenne's. I've been told that Porsche was upset about dealers selling Cayenne's below sticker, so they cut back on production to make them harder to get (supply vs demand). It's working, because the days of getting a Cayenne at $500 over invoice are gone!

Also, Toyota truck sales don't reflect the demand for the product. Try getting a Tacoma 4X4 crew cab or a simple V-6 Tundra (Access or regular cab). This year, Toyota is only making two V-6 engines for their truck line (3.3 for Highlander and 4.0 for the rest of the line). The old 3.4 is gone and they are having trouble keeping up with demand. Not to mention, the gas prices are keeping buyers away from the V-8's. Take a look at a Toyota lot and count how many V-6 trucks/SUV's there are vs V-8's. Amazing!
