Anyone ever use the Firehawks?

My Pirelli snows get mounted tomorrow, but I'm already looking for summers. The Firestone Firehawk SZ250s seem well liked, especially by BMW owners. I need a quiet, long-lasting tire. I drive 90% highway and rack up 40k+ miles per year.

Anyone ever tried them?

I put about 25k miles on a set of SZ50EPs. They were my summer/high speed AX tires. Lot's of highway miles. Good stick. Reasonably quiet. Excellent in the wet, although it was moving towards "average" as the tread wore out. Very nice street/track tire.

I think the Bridgestone S-03 Pole Position (kind of a "kissing cousin" to the SZ50) is about the same price at Tire Rack; it's a higher rated tire by reputation; it was the replacement to the SZ50 for me, and I'd say it's probably a little better as a track tire. And at least as good as a street tire.

Got the Pirellis mounted today and I went and played in the snow. [:D] MUCH better. A tremendous improvement over the Conti Sports that were on there. [thumb] Now hitting the brakes means my car will actually stop instead of becoming a sled. [rolleyes]

The really good news is that my Conti Sports still have a good amount of tread, so I won't be needing new sneakers in the spring after all. Good times all around. [:)]
