New guy here,

I know this subject has been covered numerous times, but I have an '02 330 that I want to connect satellite radio to. I had the factory head unit replaced at the dealer a few months ago, and am wondering, because it is newer, if it will be compatible. From what I've read, anything produced after Sep '03 is Sirius ready.

Does anyone know which software versions, or serial numbers, are compatible? I know how to check them on my head unit.

I've searched the threads, but it is really too much information to sort through.

Thanks

Well, I spoke to the parts guy at my local BMW dealer and he told me there was no way to hook sirius satellite up to my car. When I aks why, he said because BMW said so. He said even if the head unit was post-09/02 they still couldn't hook it up. When I asked him what the difference was, he got pissy, mumbled something about an antanea and didn't really give me an answer. I think I frustrated him and his lack of knowledge.

He then went on to suggest I trade my car in for one with satellite. I told him it sounded pretty stupid to buy a $40,000 330i just to get a $300 satellite radio system.

Anyway, so if the head unit doesn't matter, then what is the difference between the pre-09/02 3 series and the post-09/02 3 series. Seems to me if they can put a man on the moon (36 years ago) they can figure out how to put satellite radio in a car.

Thanks

I'm in the same boat. How stupid was that??

Anyway I'm thinking about getting Delphi MyFi XM2Go .

I'll let you know how that works out if I get it anytime soon.
Bday is coming up so that's a perfect gift for me..

[cheers]

check your manufacture date and software version. My replacement factory head unit has this info:

SV 24-04 43 which equates to production of week 24, year 04, software version 43. If you have a year of 02, software version must be 50 or higher. If you have 03 and up year, the method described in above link will work.

I purchased a Pioneer head unti for about $150 and the Sirius tuner is only about $100 but I had a $50 rebate so total I spent $200 for both the head unit and the sirius tuner. Why don't you just go with that? Better sound quality I think...

I just bought my 325i so I'm not really sure how to install the head unit into the car becuase the factory unit is very wide, almost twice the size of my Pioneer. Please PM me with ideas.

Which is exactly why I wanted to keep the factory head unit. I like the "clean" look. I'm happy with the sound of my factory HK system, although I did add an amp/sub. I just needed more options because the radio stations in St Louis suck!

Ok so I called the technician at my local BMW dealership and he said that he doesn't think me buying a newer radio model will help. He said there is NO way to know for sure if that will make me be able to listen to Sirius. I don't understand how he wouldn't know that or be able to get the answer. I thought it would be a common question/problem. He suggested that I get an aftermarket unit because that's all that will work according to him.

I have a new Pioneer hu and Sirius tuner with a subscription sitting in my garage without use now.. this sucks.

Update:
I dedcided to go cheap and go with Sirius radio JVC KT-SR2000.
You can get it with a 50.00 mail in rebate if buy it before 7/7/05 i think.

Here is my review over the product.
It looks good plus it matches the red in our BMWs.
Easy to hook up the antenna does not need to be put outside to get reception I put mine in my rear deck lid and works fantastic. It fits perfectly right in front of the gear knob and no it does not get in the way..I will post pics later.

Bottom line for what you pay and how well it works I give this thing a solid 8.
and it only takes minutes to activate ofh and the Sirius programs are way better than reg. radio for sure.

Plug and Play
PDA style with 6-line display
Preset scan with 18 station presets
Auto dimmer
Wireless remote control
Time-based features
Built-in wireless FM modulator with variable frequency settings
Clock-based features

The technician doesn't know shit! If you already have the Pioneer and you like it, go for it. If you want to keep a clean factory look, read what I posted above and check out the other thread link I posted above.

Hope it works for you.
