Hey Everyone,

I am in the middle of installing an amp and subs in my 91 318i. Everything is going fine...almost. There is something going on with the ground connection from the amp. I tried the one dear the battery in the trunk, the metal near the battery...even the negative lead on the battery itself. It only works once in a while. I cleaned the coating of some metal near the battery tray and connected the ground there. It worked great for a few mins, then stopped again. When I connect it to most things that should work...the protect light on the amp goes out but the power doesn't come on...any ideas??

Thanks!

check all connections. the ones at the sub as well.

for the ground, you need BARE metal on the chassis. not the battery terminal. a bolt that goes into the chassis will do, but for a good ground ensuring the amplifiers complete intended use, get on some bare metal. remember, the amp can only draw current that is grounded, so a poor ground will only allow (by physics/science) a poor amount power to reach the amp.

give me the model and make of your amp and subs. i might be able to help some more. i'd especially look at the wiring on the subs, you could be loading the amp below its allowed impedence. it could also be a sign that your amp is dieing, they do weird things sometimes before they die completely. is this new equipment?
