Some of you might remember the story of the car transport ship Tricolor. It was carrying 2800+ BMWs, Volvos and Saabs when it was wrecked in the English Channel in 2003. The salvage is complete. I found several sites with amazing photos of the salvage operation. I see lots of scrap Volvos and Saabs, but no Bimmers are clearly evident. I think I may have seen an X5.

Thanks for this incredible posting. Does anyone know what happened to the transporter ship in the first place? How did it go down? Thnx.
It got rammed by another ship. As I recall, it listed due to the impact, some cargo shifted and it went down in less than a hour. All of the crew was safely evacuated.

Apparently it was foggy and the other ship's radar was not working properly, but the reports imply that there is still a lot of mystery and head scratching as to how it possibly could have happened. [scratch]

A couple of days later, another ship hit the sunken Tricolor and was damaged as well. Apparently the Tricolor wreck had temporary buoys marking the location, and all ships in the channel were supposedly warned, but someone still managed to hit it! [scratch]

Thanks Kirby...I have been wondering what happened since it first went down. Marked with buoys, and someone still manages to hit it. Their license must have been issued by the California DMV :). Thanks again for the info, I appreciate it!
