AM Radio not working well

I recently purchased my first BMW, a 1997 328i. I listen to a lot of talk radio on AM, and the AM reception is terrible. FM is just fine. Any idea where the problem could be? I have the Bentley manual but it's not very helpful.

AM radio is a pretty weak signal to begin with. so if you are in a bad area, its just bad luck. get into someone elses car, and see how theres operates, if there is a difference, check the connection behind the HU for the antenna, check the ground for the antenna, and the connection at the window for the antenna.

I should have clarified that it's extremely weak compared with the car I traded in for the BMW and compared with our family van. Its a night and day difference. I'm listening to stations that are crystal clear on every other radio I've heard, and that I can barely get in my 328.

Where is the connection at the window for the antenna? Which window? Does the ground for the antenna come out of the back of the radio?
