Aluminum Mufflers?

Why are cars not made with Aluminum mufflers? My dad and I made one for our Honda Accord so we are going to put it on and see how it goes. Is there any reason people do not make these?

isn't exhaust hot enought to melt aluminum?

In another thread, Big Daddy mentioned that aluminum is much more susceptable to corrosion from exhaust gases. Also, aluminum has a higher thermal expansion rate, and is weak compared to steel & stainless steel. So, it will be more prone to cracking and mechanical failure due to heat cycling, vibration, etc.

First big rock that hits your exhaust will rip it apart. Think of an aluminum can, only 5x thicker. Not very strong.

thanks for the input we will put the muffler on sometime this week or next week and test it for a while.
