I have a 2007 X-3 SAV with 10K miles. About two months ago, the low fluid level indicator light would illuminate for 5 to 10 seconds on a cold start. A quick check at the dealership didn't reveal any problems. Then the light started to remain on longer...so I checked the coolant level myself and found it below the minimum level and I brought it up to the recommended level. Problem solved? Not really....
Recently, I observed coolant on the garage floor...a little at first, then quite a little bit more recently... accompanied by the low level control panel light. It only dumped fluid while the engine was still warm...nothing after about 10 minutes. I continued to add water...and coolant continued to drain out.
I took the car in, fully expecting the condition to display itself by having coolant spill onto the dealer's driveway. But that was not to be....nothing happened! And it didn't for the two days the car remained in the repair bay. I retrieved the car with no explanation as to why it did what it did.
I'm not conformable with this "fix"since I'm headed off on a road trip in a couple of weeks. Anyone have any ideas or similar experiences?
Jerry
