600 hp 60 mpg Hummer H3, 0-60 in 5 sec!

Or a 100 mpg Lincoln Continental with 80% reduction in emissions?

Interesting story in Fast Company this month, available here. This guy is getting big-time attention, because he is doing stuff with STOCK parts that Detroit says can't be done. But they have looked at his technology, and it's for real, like hydrogen-diesel blend fuel injection. It's not that Detroit was suppressing this technology, it's more that Detroit has blinders on, this guy just laughs when someone says "You can't do that."

Excerpt:

Two years ago, Goodwin got a rare chance to show off his tricks to some of the car industry's most prominent engineers. He tells me the story: He was driving a converted H2 to the SEMA show, the nation's biggest annual specialty automotive confab, and stopped en route at a Denver hotel. When he woke up in the morning, there were 20 people standing around his Hummer. Did I run over somebody? he wondered. As it turned out, they were engineers for GM, the Hummer's manufacturer. They noticed that Goodwin's H2 looked modified. "Does it have a diesel engine in it?" "Yeah," he said.
"No way," they replied.
He opened the hood, "and they're just all in and out and around the valves and checking it out," he says. They asked to hear it run, sending a stab of fear through Goodwin. He'd filled it up with grease from a Chinese restaurant the day before and was worried that the cold morning might have solidified the fuel. But it started up on the first try and ran so quietly that at first they didn't believe it was really on. "When you start a diesel engine up on vegetable oil," Goodwin says, "you turn the key, and you hear nothing. Because of the lubricating power of the oil, it's just so smooth. Whisper quiet. And they're like, 'Is it running? Yeah, you can hear the fan going.'"
One engineer turned and said, "GM said this wouldn't work."
"Well," Goodwin replied, "here it is."

No Mike I did not see that one, sounds like I should try and find a video of that one.
You really should, the object of this one show was to have a envirometally friendly car, to the interior was made from Hemp and recycled glass and plastics. And a bad ass bio diesel engine that was producing 800 hp and over 1400flb torque..... and the car looked fabulous

The MTV television show, “Pimp My Ride,” will take a 1965 Chevy Impala and transform it into a biodiesel hot rod in honor of Earth Day. The car will receive an engine transplant and get an 800 horsepower version of the popular Duramax diesel engine, usually found in Chevy and GMC trucks.

Press release follows:

In celebration of Earth Day, MTV and the “Pimp My Ride” crew prove that going green can get extreme, especially with a little help from a friend - California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. As part of a very special Earth Day episode airing April 22nd at 1 pm ET/PT, Governor Schwarzenegger visits Xzibit, Mad Mike and the entire “Pimp My Ride” crew at G.A.S. (Galpin Auto Sports), as they take aim on a ‘65 Chevy Impala, and give it a one of a kind ecological alteration. Ultimately proving that power and preservation can co-exist thanks to partners at Galpin, Imperium Renewables, General Motors and others, the Impala gets an 800 horsepower diesel engine that will run on biodiesel, turning it into one extraordinary clean machine! …

During this special edition of “Pimp My Ride” fans will meet Kristoffer from North Hollywood, CA who has had more than his fair share of car trouble with his 1965 Chevy Impala. Rescue comes his way however as Xzibit pays him a surprise, and takes his car to G.A.S. for the ultimate ecological transformation. Beau, Mad Mike, and the entire G.A.S. team put together the plan, which includes installing a monster 800 horsepower diesel engine that will run on biodiesel! Fans watch every step of the way, and even join Mad Mike as he visits the guys at Imperium Renewables to learn exactly how alternative fuels are created and used. The crew then decides to test out how the new biodiesel Impala fares against a Lamborghini Gallardo in the ultimate race! In a surprise visit, Governor Schwarzenegger himself visits G.A.S. to help with the final touches and provides his own eco-approval. With the race and transformation complete with the Governor’s blessing, Kristoffer gets jolted when his new pimped-out masterpiece is unveiled before him.

Galpin Auto Sports, the garage of “Pimp My Ride,” takes going green to an all-new level in this special episode. Their dedication to protecting our Earth dates back to 1979 when Galpin Motors began converting fleets of gasoline engine vehicles to run on methanol and even opened the nation’s first methanol service station. Additionally, Galpin Motors was one of the first dealers to sell Ford flexible fuel vehicles, TH!NK Neighbors and other electric vehicles, for which they even built an on-site charging station.

General Motors lends a hand with the restoration of this very special ‘65 Chevy Impala with its efficient and powerful Duramax diesel engine which, when found in the latest Chevrolet and GMC trucks, is one of the cleanest diesel engines ever produced. GM is focused on reducing the environmental impact of its vehicles and promoting energy diversity with the development of advanced fuel-saving technologies for the conventional vehicle, the use of biofuels like E85 ethanol and biodiesel, and the development of electrically-driven vehicles like hybrids, fuel cells, and those that can be powered by lithium ion battery technology. To restore this classic Impala to mint condition, Mad Mike, Beau and the G.A.S. crew wanted to use the “real thing” - original parts manufactured with the original tool and die from GM Restoration Parts.

Imperium Renewables, was also a key partner in this special episode of “Pimp My Ride” - providing biodiesel fuel and engineering expertise as well as providing a year supply of biodiesel fuel made from Canola for the show’s lucky recipient of the new pimped out ride. A leader in the renewable energy industry, Imperium Renewables is committed to helping society break its addiction to petroleum. Known for its creation of several proprietary new production innovations and technology, Imperium Renewables is currently set to build the largest biodiesel production facility in the U.S. at Imperium Grays Harbor, Washington this year.

A few extra details about the car:

Engine output is 800 Horsepower and 1400 foot pounds of torque.
Car runs on pure B100 biodiesel.
0-60 time is 3.5 seconds.
Interior is made from 100 percent recycled fibers
Trunk is lined with biodegradable hemp and recycled wood.
Car is equipped with a GPS unit that locates the nearest biodiesel station.

This guy and his company is getting a ton of press coverage. Here's another article and video about this guy on CNN.com today:

WICHITA, Kansas (CNN) -- On a beautiful, crisp late fall afternoon, rock icon Neil Young took his 1959 Lincoln Continental for one last spin before a team of mechanics ripped out its gas-guzzling engine to make way for an electric motor.

Neil Young watches as mechanics remove the engine from his 1959 Lincoln Continental.

Car buffs may think it's sacrilege to tear apart an automotive classic, but Young wants it to have a new life as a fuel-efficient hybrid.

"If we're going to make a difference, truly make cars more environmentally friendly," Young said, "we have to make that emotional connection."

Young said everyone has a connection with an old car like the Lincoln.

It only took about an hour for Johnathan Goodwin and his four-man team to pry the engine out of Young's Lincoln. He'll have the new engine installed in 45 days.
