From Autoblog:

BMW's most recent recall has not been confined to China, but includes 46,000 5-, 6-, and 7-Series models built between January 9th and April 18th of this year and sold throughout the world.

The problem apparently involves defective rubber bushings in the rear shocks that could loosen and lead to handling problems and loss of vehicle control. BMW blames its supplier for the issue that was caught before anyone was injured as a result, but the recall will cost the German automaker an estimated 16 million euro.

Seriously!!!! I don't understand what's so damn hard about it. Every other car company can design shock mounts that don't require replacing every 20,000 miles.
Stiffer shocks though, and trying to keep noise down... but even so all the aftermarket ones have no problems [bash]

Humans are flawed, we make mistakes, at least they caught it before anyone got hurt. How many people died in SUV rollovers before Ford decided to recall thost tires a few years back?

We're not saying that... we're saying that there is a part that should last just as long as every other suspension part, but it only lasts around 2,000 to 50,000 miles... and all BMW's since the late 70's have had the exact problem. Plenty of aftermarket parts that don't have that kind of problem and cost a marginal amount more.
